Our client, an established and highly regarded structural steelworks and fabrication business based in Dingwall is looking to recruit an experienced Draughtsperson / CAD Technician to join its team.

Working on a varied range of structural steel projects across the Highlands and wider Scotland, this is a hands-on role where you'll take projects from drawings and specifications through to detailed fabrication information for the workshop and site teams.

The Role

You'll work closely with the company's management, fabrication team, site personnel and customers to produce accurate drawings and ensure projects can move efficiently from design through manufacture and installation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Producing detailed structural steel and fabrication drawings
• Preparing general arrangement and fabrication/shop drawings
• Creating accurate material and cutting information for manufacture
• Interpreting architectural and structural engineering drawings
• Liaising with engineers, clients, workshop and site teams
• Reviewing drawings and identifying potential issues before fabrication
• Making amendments as projects develop
• Supporting projects from initial information through fabrication and installation
• Ensuring drawings are accurate, practical and issued within required timescales

About You

We're looking for someone who understands that good draughting isn't simply about producing a technically correct drawing – it needs to work in the workshop and ultimately on site.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous draughting, detailing or CAD experience within structural steel, fabrication or a closely related engineering environment
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings
• Experience producing fabrication/shop drawings
• Good CAD skills and confidence learning new systems
• Excellent attention to detail
• A practical understanding of how fabricated components are manufactured and assembled
• The ability to manage your own workload and communicate effectively with colleagues, engineers and customers

Experience within structural steelwork would be particularly advantageous, although candidates from relevant fabrication, mechanical or engineering backgrounds with strong transferable experience are also encouraged to apply.
