We are currently recruiting for an experienced Sliding Head CNC Machinist to join a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business based in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC professional to join a busy engineering environment producing high-quality, precision-machined components.

We are particularly interested in candidates with previous experience operating Sliding Head / Swiss-Type CNC machinery, although applications from strong CNC machinists with relevant turning or precision engineering experience are also welcomed.

The Role

As a Sliding Head CNC Machinist, you will be responsible for producing precision components to engineering drawings and required quality standards.

Duties will include:

• Setting and operating Sliding Head / Swiss-Type CNC machines
• Producing precision-machined components to engineering drawings
• Carrying out machine set-ups, tooling changes and adjustments
• Monitoring machining operations and making necessary offsets
• Working to tight tolerances and demanding quality standards
• Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
• Using measuring and inspection equipment to verify finished components
• Carrying out dimensional and visual quality checks
• Identifying and resolving machining or production issues
• Maintaining accurate production and quality records
• Working closely with engineering and production colleagues
• Ensuring machinery and working areas are maintained to a high standard
• Following all relevant health, safety and quality procedures

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous Sliding Head CNC machining experience
• Experience with CNC turning and precision engineering
• Strong knowledge of CNC machine setting and operation
• Ability to confidently read engineering drawings
• Experience working to tight tolerances
• Good understanding of cutting tools, speeds, feeds and machining processes
• Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges
• A strong focus on quality and attention to detail
• Ability to troubleshoot machining issues
• A practical, reliable and professional approach to work

Experience with machines from manufacturers such as Citizen, Star, Tornos or Tsugami would be particularly advantageous, although this is not essential.
